SAFETY, RESERVATIONS & GROUPS

Is axe throwing safe?

Yes, we have created a safe axe throwing environment with our own hands at Hurling Hatchet. Literally, we built this place working side-by-side with our family members. It was like a barn raising but we built axe throwing lanes.

You will need to sign a waiver before throwing an axe. You will be briefed on the axe throwing safety protocols when you arrive. You are required to wear closed toe shoes to throw axes with us.

Can I bring my own axe?

No. We have axes for you. We don’t recommend walking around town with an axe. In the event of an apocalypse, we will share our axes.

What is the minimum and maximum amount of people for a reservation?

To reserve your own lane, book at least 3 people. We recommend 3-6 people per lane. One lane includes 1 targets. If you have a large group, you will be throwing in multiple lanes.

If your group is smaller than 3 people, that’s okay too. You may have to share a lane with strangers (or soon-to-be axe throwing buddies). Don’t forget to make a reservation by booking online.

If you want the lane to yourself, you need to make a reservation for 3 or more people. You don’t need to bring that many people but you do need to pay for a reservation for at least 3 people to have the lane to yourself.

How do I make a reservation for a group of people when we all want to pay separately?

If you are a party of 5 or less, make sure each member of the party chooses the same lane and time slot. Also helpful, would be to list a common party name under the party name section.

If you are a party of 6 or more please contact us to make reservations.

If it’s easier and you have a few days, just call us (319-575-4847) or send us a message and we’ll set up your group reservation via phone at Hurling Hatchet

What if I or someone in my party doesn’t want to throw axes? Can I just come hang out in your space?

Only people with paid reservations are allowed in the space. Space is limited and we want to keep everyone safe.

Are there age requirements?

Yes. Due to the nature of axe throwing, those age 17 and under must have an adult present at the lane. We highly recommend 1 adult per 3 minors and 1 adult per small group of teenagers. Please keep in mind, axe throwing requires good coordination and concentration skills to be successful.

Children under the age of 16 are not allowed to throw axes. Our insurance person said, “no! children throwing axes,” he’s one smart person!

Otherwise, axe throwing is a fun, “all ages” activity.

Can I take pictures?

Yes please, we recommend taking pictures. We also encourage you to share pictures with us on Social Media.

Can I book an axe throwing party?

Yes, an axe throwing party is a great way to have fun with friends. Please call us and we would be happy to make reservations.

Call us at 319-575-4847 or send us a message to make a group reservation. Note – your reservation is completed when you receive a confirmation from us. It’s good to give us a few days to prepare for you.

What if I am late? What if part of my group is late?

We HIGHLY RECOMMEND arriving 15 minutes early to your scheduled reservation. We have a terrific space; you can explore and get settled in.

You will have one required safety briefing per group. The Axe Coach will wait for all group members to arrive before starting the safety briefing.

Simply put, if you arrive late, you will have less time to throw axes.
